Life and Times
Dan was born Aug. 25, 1947, in Ogden, Utah. He moved with his family to Las Vegas in January 1963. Dan graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1965. He made the decision to enlist in the Army because he felt it was the right thing to do. Dan served in the U.S. Army 1st Calvary Air Assault Helicopter division as a Door Gunner in Vietnam. Survived being shot down twice. Lost many of his friends and buddies right in front of him and in his arms. Dan fought during the TET Offense. Life expectancy of a door gunner during combat was 2 minutes (as quoted from myHeritage.com/Military Records.)
Dan was awarded Five Medals and awarded Two United States of America Commendations for the Air Medals for MERITORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT WHILE PARTICIPATING IN AERIAL FLIGHT.
Vietnam Veterans returned home with no great welcomes as do soldiers of today which they all deserve so much. Dan's welcomes were from family and friends. Needing the adrenalin rush after combat, Dan began sky diving and became the President of the Las Vegas Sky Divers Club. He logged well over 300 jumps. One of his many jumps was parachuting down dressed as Santa Claus landing in the former Vegas Village parking lot.
During that time he began 4 years at UNLV (formerly Nevada Southern University). Working his way through school, Dan loaded baggage at the Greyhound Bus Terminal in Las Vegas.
Dan then went on to 4 years of Law School working his way through by painting houses and apartments in California. He came home on weekends to visit his family. A proud Dan graduated from PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL in California with his DEGREES
In 1977 Dan began his career with the Clark County District Attorney's Office in Las Vegas. He was a Chief Deputy District Attorney and Prosecutor as well as a Team Chief Leader. He worked closely with Victims, Judges, Attorneys, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept., Henderson Police Dept., North Las Vegas Police Dept. Clark County Coroner's Office and outlying counties in Nevada when legal help was required. He retired after 30 years.
He loved riding his Harley-Davidson. For over 25 years Dan, with wife, Mare, at his back, made several group trips. Among them to Sturgis, Daytona, the Florida Keys, Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado, Zion, 4 Corners, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in Jackson Hole, Wyo. Dan and Mare rode around Vancouver Island, Canada for three weeks including Victoria, Sooke, Campbell River, Quadra Island and more in British Columbia. Throughout the years he made many group trips with his friends to Sedona, Colorado Springs, Laughlin, Parker and Big Bear, Ca., all with Mare on the back of his Harley Road King. The more trips they took the bigger the groups got.
In addition, he loved Sailing owning many sailboats. And loved power boats too. Dan and Mare made many trips in their motorhome. Travel was in his blood.
In 1993, Dan was part owner of the Las Vegas Thunder Hockey Team with a great group of local businessmen.
Dan and Mare built a beach house 26 years ago in San Felipe, Baja, Mexico, on the Sea of Cortez. Dan always brought their family and friends for vacations. He would build big fires in a wash tub every morning about 5 a.m. on the beach and all of his family, friends and neighbors with all their dogs would sit together in a large circle, and have Bailey's and coffee and watch the sun rise all looking for the Green Flash.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Maryetta Bowman (Mare, as she is called). They were married on a beach at sunset on the Island of Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands. They chartered 4 sailboats with 17 friends for their wedding. Sailing all the British and American Virgin Islands.
Dan is survived by Mare's son, Don Wall and his family, wife, Darci Poloni Wall and her 7 year old daughter, Riley. And Don's 19 year old daughter, Alyson Wall.
Dan is also survived by his two younger brothers, John Bowman and Steve Bowman (Connie). They both live in the Eagle Valley (Pioche) area of Nevada. From Steve's family Dan is survived by nieces, Rebecca (Justin) and Katie and nephew, Jacob (Kailey), greatnieces, Lorelei and Layla and greatnephew, Colby. From his sister Peggy's family, Dan is survived by his nephew, Brian Malone and niece, Ginger Malone.
Dan's mother and father have passed away as well as his older sister. They were Clinton (Bud) Oscar Bowman and Gladys Florence Bowman and Dan's older sister, Peggy Malone.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, in Boulder City. Reception following at the Boulder Creek Golf Club Pavilion just minutes away.
I want to thank all of the staff, doctors, specialists, nurses, caregivers, the ER doctor and staff and the ICU doctor and staff of the St. Rose de Lima Hospital for all they did for my husband, Dan. They were all outstanding.

The mission of this fund is to help reduce the financial burden suffered by Police Officers and their families in the event of a line of duty injury or death providing monetary assistance to these Officers and their families.
