Wally Buhler, 94, of Windom died June 3, 2014, at Windom Area Hospital.

A graveside memorial service with full military honors provided by Windom American Legion Post 206, will be held Aug. 9 at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.

Friends of Wally are invited to participate in his Celebration of Life service.

Wallace Henry Buhler was born Feb. 3, 1920, to Abraham and Alice (Diemer) Buhler in Mt. Lake. He graduated from Windom High School in 1938, where he was crowned Windom's first homecoming king. He also participated in all sports in high school.

In January 1941, Wally joined the Minnesota National Guard. He was stationed on Kodiak Island, Alaska where he served as a tech sargent in charge of anti-aircraft battery and as a machine gun trainer. He was honorably discharged in June 1945 from the Army Air Corp at Ft. Sheridan, Ill.

In 1941, Wally married Margy Elness in Yuma, Ariz. After World War II, Wally and Margy returned to Windom where he remained his entire life.

He was part owner of the Buhler Hatchery, farmed for many years and also was employed as a law enforcement officer with the City of Windom for 25 years before retiring.
In retirement, Wally and Margy traveled extensively throughout the United States and Mexico and spent 19 winters in Arizona.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, refinishing furniture and watching his favorite teams, the Twins and Vikings. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Wally was preceded in death by his wife, Margy of 71 years.
Survivors include his six children: Wallis Kay (Merv) Spaeth of Bacus; Gail (Gary) Mohlenkamp of Green Valley, Ariz.; Gary (Cris) Buhler of Flower Mound, Texas; Claudia (Birkenmeyer) Buhler of Kenosha, Wis.; Paul (Nancy) Buhler of Windom; and Mary (Alvin) Young of Mankato; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
