DEFOREST - Mark Hamele, age 57, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at UW Hospital. He was born on March 27, 1950, in Fort Riley, Kan., the son of Vivian and Louis Hamele.

Mark worked for the Dane County Traffic Department and the Dane County Sheriff's Department for 16 years, retiring in 1988. Mark, Terry Brink and Ron Mainguth founded the K-9 patrol which is in existence today. Mark also dedicated his life in serving the community by founding the DeForest Youth Football program and was active in many other youth programs. He also coached football at Lodi High School. He served on the DeForest Village Board and was later elected village president. Mark also volunteered for the Windsor and DeForest Fire Department. Mark dedicated his life to helping others and always put everyone else before himself. Mark had many interests, especially the time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Pam; his children, Eric (Nancy) Hamele of DeForest, and Scott (Mary) Hamele of Windsor; three grandchildren, Joy, Drake and Gracie; his mother, Vivian Hamele of Windsor; a sister, Debra (Tom) Kukla of Carmel, Ind.; in-laws, Robin and John Cavanaugh of Middleton, and Tom and Lynn Bradley of Aurora, Ohio; mother-in-law, Katie Bradley of DeForest; his dog, Iceman; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many best friends. He was preceded in death by his father; and father-in-law, Frank Bradley.
