Obituary for Lola Moore

Lola Mae Moore, age 77, of Girard, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice residence in Battle Creek.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Girard United Methodist Church with Pastor Emily Beachy officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Girard Township. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Lola was born on August 30, 1936 in Richmond, Indiana. She was adopted by Abbie and Stanley Potter in 1946 and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1955. She felt very blessed when she was married to Donald Moore on June 26, 1955. The couple enjoyed their life together for over fifty years until Don passed away in 2009. Farming was the highlight of their lives and they enjoyed the winter months in their home in Florida.

Lola will be remembered as a secretary for the Coldwater Community Schools for many years at Girard Elementary and Jefferson Elementary. She loved children and made many lasting friendships with the teachers and parents. She also enjoyed writing poetry and sharing her talent by writing special poems for funerals, anniversaries, and having several published. For many years she wrote a weekly column for the Coldwater Daily Reporter and continued to write her columns periodically. Recently Lola jumped at the chance to join the staff of Frank Talk magazine and continued to share her stories with others until she was unable to.

Lola recently fulfulled her lifetime dream of becoming an author by writing her first book entitled "In the Heart of Girard". It was highly read and enjoyed by many.

She was an active member of the Girard United Methodist Church where she organized and led a weekly Grief Share Group to help others through difficult times. Lola was very active in weekly Prayer Group at the church and for the last several years was in charge of a program called "Caring Ministry" in which she reached out into the community to help shut-ins, who needed an extra helping hand with meals and sending cards to those who were ill. Lola enjoyed many years in the County Couples organization, and Quincy O.E.S.

Lola is survived by her daughter Diana Huntley of Charlotte, son Dennis (Deb) Moore of Coldwater and her grandchildren, Gretchen Huntley of Orlando, FL, Heidi (Scott) Gottleber of Lansing, Derick (Brooke) Moore of Quincy, great-grandchildren Emma and Samuel Gottleber of Lansing, and Daxten Moore of Quincy (my newest blessing). Step-grandchildren Natasha Stanton, Melissa Barrard, and Erwin Stanton, step-great-grandchildren Rhianna, Dawson, Macy, Brycen and Toby. One brother John (Mary Ann) Stevens of Coldwater, several nieces and nephews.
