The Rev. Milton King Dare was a retired minister and rancher who served on many boards and committees with the United Methodist Church and its service organizations.

Dare, 67, died Thursday in a San Antonio hospital after a lengthy illness.
"In honor of his lifelong commitment and service as a United Methodist minister, he was elected by the faculty to receive a doctor of divinity degree in April 1979 from Southwestern University," said his son, Milton Lee Dare, of Bryan.
St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in San Antonio, where Dare was pastor from 1976 to 1982, responded by establishing a scholarship fund in his name at the university for seminary students, his son said.
Dare was born March 28, 1927, in Robstown to Herman Dare and Mildred King Dare. He married Dorothy Hahn of Fredericksburg on March 25, 1950.
He graduated from Southwestern University in 1949 and was received into the church as a minister that same year. He was ordained a deacon in 1951 and an elder in 1952.
Dare served as associate minister for the Ervay Street United Methodist Church in Dallas from 1950 to 1952 and as organizing minister for the Wesley United Methodist Church in Harlingen from 1952 to 1959.
Dare also was pastor of First United Methodist Church in Lockhart (1959-1962), Memorial United Methodist Church in Austin (1962-1972) and at Highland Terrace United Methodist Church in San Antonio (1987-1992).
In addition, he was superintendent of the Kerrville district from 1972 to 1976 and was appointed to the church's Christian travel ministry from 1982 to 1987.
Dare was a past chairman of the conference's Board of Trustees and Board of Missions. He also attended World Methodist Conferences in 1966, 1971 and 1976.
Dare also is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hahn Dare of Fredericksburg; another son, Mark Edward Dare of Marble Falls; a half-brother, H.E. Dare Jr. of Houston; and four grandchildren.
Services are to be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schaetter Funeral Home.
