Mr. James Michael "Mike" Parrish, age 70, of Carrollton, Texas, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 in St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas. Mike Parrish was born on November 10, 1943 in Artesia, New Mexico. He was the second child of James Maurice Parrish and Opal Steed Parrish, eight years younger than his favorite sister Jacqueline Stewart. Mike grew up the son of a driller who worked in 27 states by the time he graduated high school. His curiosity of how things worked and his experiences growing up in the oil field motivated him to earn a Petroleum Engineering Degree from the LSU.
In addition to rough necking during college on a night shift, he also worked as a RA to reduce his rent. There he met Billy Rose Cotton, fell in love, got married, graduated, and had his first child, James Michael Parrish, Jr., in Houston, Texas.
The next 38 years were a whirlwind of global travel as he specialized in Deep Sea Operations working for a company called, SEDCO. Starting in Darwin, Australia - where his second son, Jason Maurice Parrish was born - he then moved to Brunei, Borneo, then to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and then to Aboyne, Scotland. His third son, Joel Matthew Parrish was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and then they hit the road again to Palma de Mallorca, Spain, then to Stavanger, Norway and Sandes, Norway, and then back to Aberdeen, Scotland. A corporate merger with Schlumberger changed everything and he moved his family to the United States of America.
Mike has frequented Hagerville at least once a month to enjoy reconnecting with his many cousins and been to Austin and Huntington Beach to attend every important event in the lives of the five grandchildren with whom he has been able to establish a relationship. He has been a great friend and confidant to Misyeri and demonstrated a capacity to love that makes anyone is his shadow feel safe and complete.
Mike is survived by his wife, Misyeri; sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Carroll Stewart; son's Michael, Jason and Matthew; grandchildren Christina Rose, Sydney Alexandra, Gabrielle Millay, Jude Lawrence, Kendra Raven, Ava Juliet, Mia Bozelle, Ezra James; and his first wife, Billy Rose.
Funeral services for Mr. James Michael "Mike" Parrish will be held in the St. Francis of the Tejas Catholic Church in Crockett with Father Gary Rottman officiating. Interment will follow in the Enon Cemetery.
