Frank, a commission merchant and later a banker by trade, was one of at least six children of William Belcher Reynolds and Elizabeth Carter.

He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in Co. "B", 4th Massachusetts Infantry Battalion on 26 May 1862, but five days later was mustered out to accept a similar commission in Co. "C", 44th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment (a nine-months regiment). He went with the regiment to North Carolina, where it saw action at Rawles' Mill and Goldsboro in late 1862. He was promoted Captain on 22 August 1862, and was discharged for disability on 28 December 1862.

He married Cordelia Frances Weld on 16 September 1863 at West Roxbury. They had at least three children: Marion, Robert and Madaline.

On November 3, 1868, he was elected Companion #00924 in the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS), the first post-Civil War veterans' organization. His membership medal is shown here.

He died of "Pancreatic Diabetes" at 411 Marlboro Street, per his death certificate.
