Town of Center Pioneer Passes After Illness of Two Days
Eli Crall, 80, a resident of the town of Center for 78 years, prominent as a stockman, and known throughout the state for his exhibits of sheep and Shorthorn cattle, treasurer of the district school board for 30 years and town chairman for 18 years, died at 12:45 a. m. Monday, following and illness of two days.
Mr. Crall was born in Mansfield, O., and in the fall of 1846 came to Rock county with his parents, Katherine and Daniel Crall. They located on a farm in the town of Center, where he spent his entire life. In 1875, Mr. Crall was married to Miss Justina Babcock, who died 32 years ago.
He is survived by two sons, Seth L. Crall, Center, and Ray Crall, Stoughton, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Alva Tracy, (Maude Crall) Center; Effie Crall, Center, and Mrs. Ray Swingle, (Katherine Crall) Shopiere; also nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at the home, the Rev. Mr. Charles of the Christian church of Footville, officiating. Burial is to be in the Center cemetery.
MR. Crall and his son, Seth Crall, have been engaged in stock raising for many years. In 1905 they began entering their exhibits at the state fair in Milwaukee and have never missed a year.
