Obituary Record of Those Who Have Passed Away In This Vicinity Recently
Lafayette J. Milroy
Lafayette J. Milroy of Rhinecliff died Monday morning in the Northern Dutchess Health Center, where he had been a patient only a short time. He was 91 years old and was called the last living member of the old Pocahontas Steamer company here.
Mr. Milroy was born on April 24, 1860 in Lafayetteville, son of Robert and Mary Carmichael Milroy. He was one of the early pioneers in the violet industry in this town, served as justice of the peace of the town of Rhinebeck and was associated with the Milroy Brothers blacksmith shop in Rhinebeck prior to his retirement in 1919. He was a senior trustee of St. Joseph's parish and had been a resident of Rhinecliff for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie Gainey Leary Milroy; two sons, William D. Milroy of Woodhaven, L. I. and Charles Leo Milroy of Rhinebeck; three daughters, Mrs. Daniel Lunch of Huntington, L. I., Mrs. Frank V. Murphy of Freeport, L. I. and Sister Mary Virginia, O.P., of Mt. St. Mary's at Newburgh; eleven grandchildren including Sister Mary Yvonne, O.P., of Mt. St. Mary's and the Rev. Francis Milroy, M.M., of Maryknoll; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at his home at 9:30 o'clock this Thursday morning and in St. Joseph's Church in Rhinecliff at ten o'clock, when a Mass of Requiem was offered by the Rev. Father Milroy. Interment took place in St. Joseph's cemetery at Rhinecliff, under the direction of William E. White. Bearers were William Milroy, Robert Milroy, Robert Milroy Jr., John T. Milroy, Louis Asher and William Asher.
