Mrs. Dixon died at 10:25 am, Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at her home after a long and courageous battle against cancer. She was born Oct. 17, 1950 at Kansas City, MO to Verlin Leland Payne and Nima Jean York Payne. She graduated from the West Plains High School and studied accounting at Draughan's Business College. On Oct. 22, 1971 she was married at West Plains, MO to Joe Bill Dixon. Mrs. Dixon worked at the West Plains Daily Quill, and for many years at the West Plains Family Clinic and Burton Creek Medical Clinic before retiring to be with her grandchildren. She became a Christian and was baptized at an early age; Mrs. Dixon attended the Brandsville Church of Christ.
In the words of her family, "Judy was one of the most selfless people we have ever had the privilege of knowing. We were so blessed that God gave us such a wonderful example. Things just will not be the same without her in our home and in our church home. She wasn't a loud person who drew attention to herself, but everyone knew about her through her kindness and love. She was steady and her faith in God and in her family did not waver. We never heard her say a bad word against anyone. We saw her help people who did not deserve it and we saw her love people who took advantage of her. She always worked at bringing her family together and then would sit and enjoy the show. Even on her last day, we gathered with her and sang, told stories, looked at pictures and laughed. We know she was happy with that. She was a beat in our family that was strong and steady and one that we will continue to hear and feel even though she has gone on. We have all been blessed to know and love her."
She is survived by her husband Joe Bill Dixon; two sons, Greg Dixon, wife, Jamie, and children, Laura Ruth, Lily Jo and Judge and Chad Dixon, wife, Jessica, and children Kaylea, Emma and Joby; Kameron Moss, of the family home; one brother, Carl Payne; two sisters, Elaine Payne and Debbie Payne; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and a lifelong friend and cousin, Linda Sue Taylor, as well as many more cousins.
Her parents and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glen and Ruth Dixon, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 5:30 until 8.00 pm, Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Meltaberger Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Meltaberger Cemetery or St. Jude's Children
s Research Hospital and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. On line condolences may be expressed at www.robertsondrago.com.
