MERIDEN - Viola I. Collins, 86, wife of the late Armand J. Collins, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011 at Apple Rehab/Coccomo after a brief illness.

Born in St. Claire, NB, Canada on April 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Claire (DesJardins) Gauvin and had resided in Meriden for the past 55 years. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Collins, of Hamden, D.J. Collins and her husband, Mark Nuzzolo, of Woodbridge; one son, Brian Collins and his wife, Cheryl, of Meriden; five grandchildren, Shelly, Crystal, Jonathan, David and Nicholas; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Gregory, Gertrude Thibault and Lillian Soucy; three brothers, Gene, Armand and Bertin Gauvin; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one sister, Monique; and four brothers, Gerald, Roderick, Alveo and Hector Gauvin.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, on Friday, Aug. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Franciscan Life Center, 267 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.
