Mr. Gene Stratton Porter, age 79 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014.

Born Monday, August 20, 1934 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was the former owner and manager of Frazier Machine and Supply Company, Inc.

Mr. Porter was a devoted Christian, member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Winnfield. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Porter's greatest joy was shopping with his wife, three daughters, and his grandchildren. His giving spirit was paramount in his life. He gave without asking and never sought recognition for his giving. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved his bird dogs and hunting brought him great pleasure. He also enjoyed working in his yard.

He was a charter member of the Winnfield Quarterback Club and was a faithful supporter of the Winnfield Tiger football program for many years. Mr. Porter was a graduate of Northwestern State University. Gene was a former member of the Rotary Club and Eastern Star Lodge #151, F&AM. He was also a 32nd degree Mason with the Scottish Rite. He was a United States Army veteran.

He was the son of the late George W. Porter, and Josie Allen Porter. He was also preceded in death by his younger brother, John T. Porter.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of fifty seven years, Johnnie Louise Frazier Porter; Daughters, Lou Harlan and husband Paul of Winnfield, Louisiana, Pam Frazier and husband Danny of Dallas, Texas and Karla Davidson and husband Michael of Winnfield, Louisiana. Grandchildren; Lindsay Harlan Hilton and husband Jeremy of Enterprise, Alabama, Jeananne Frazier of New Orleans, Louisiana, Stratton Harlan of Ruston, Louisiana, Danna Frazier of Little Rock, Arkansas and Josie Davidson of Winnfield, LA and great grandson, Porter Hilton of Enterprise Alabama. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Manuel and husband Herman of Ruston, Louisiana and Janice Williams of West Monroe, Louisiana. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Elmo Frazier, Jr. and his wife Ann of New Orleans.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Calvin Phelps and Rev. John Holland officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories, Winnfield, Louisiana.

Serving as pallbearers are Thomas Ray Straughn, Tommy Bankston, Don Causey, Glen Stroud, David Manuel, Lynn Sullivan, Tommy Porter, Leroy Cloud, Larry Dauterive, and Johnny Lovell.

Serving as honorary pallbearers is the deacon body of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, Louisiana.
