James Frederick Thien died Wednesday, June 18th, of age related causes. He was 88.

Jim was born February 28, 1926 in Coldwater, Ohio to John and Theresa Thien and was the 10th of 11 children.

Jim was a WWII Veteran. After serving 2 years in the Navy as a gunner's mate aboard Merchant Marine ships, in 1946 he and his brother K.R. moved from Ohio to Eugene, Oregon. He spent the next 50 years as a concrete contractor.

He married Mildred A. Lawson in 1952. They had 3 children. They were married for 35 years until Millie's passing in 1988. Jim was also preceded in death by his son James F. Thien Jr. in 2001.

As an outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing.

Jim is survived by his sister Dorothy Baumgarten of Minster, Ohio and his 2 children Linda S. Lucas and Thomas D. Thien of Eugene. He leaves 5 grandchildren; Robert James Lucas, Jason James Thien, Erik D. Thien, Steven W. Lucas all of Arizona and Rick Thien of Eugene as well as 8 great grandchildren.

Jim maintained a positive and inspiring attitude and was a "mentor" to many.

The Thien family wishes to extend thanks and appreciation to the spiritual and comfort care teams at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. There was a Celebration of Life held at Thom Thien's residence.
