Joseph S. "Joe" Saia, 89, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

Joe was born January 1, 1925, in Delia, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Christina Kalcik Saia, and graduated from Delia High School in 1942. He served our country as a gunner's mate in the Armed Guard of the US Navy on convoy duty in the Atlantic during WWII. On October 1, 1949, Joe and Adeline Schreiner were united in marriage at Holy Name Church enjoying almost 65 years together. Joe was a civil servant working as a medical technician at the Topeka VA Hospital for over 30 years. He was a member of Holy Name Church and the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 534 and the James W. Gibbons Fourth Degree Assembly.

Survivors include Joe's wife, Adeline; children, Karen Morrow (Chuck), Joe Saia (Glenda Taylor) and Tony Saia (Kris); grandchildren, Dillon Dreher (Michelle Albano), Lindy Brewer (Jeff); and great-grandchildren, Nolan Brewer, Jalen Moore, Camden Brewer, and Talia Dreher. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Vic, Pauline and Josephine.

Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where there will be a Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree chalice ceremony and rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery,
