Sam was the son of Charles and Emma (Lucier) Beck, and after age nine he was raised in Kipling where his family subsequently relocated. Sam attended local schools he was a graduate of the Gladstone High School.
Sam later entered military service, serving in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Delta County and became self-employed in the oil distributing business, having owned and operated the Sam Beck Standard Oil Company located in Escanaba. After many years of ownership and delivering heating oil to many local and faithful customers, Sam retired.
Golfing was an avid hobby for Sam, and even though he was somewhat of a private individual, Sam had a number of faithful friends, especially in the Kipling area.
Sam Beck's survivors include one brother, Marland "Marley" ("Jo") Beck; three sisters, Charlotte "Chickie" Gerald Trekas, Grayce Etchen, Janet (Richard) Elson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Beck, and a sister, Beverly Schneider.
