"Julian RD - 102-Year Old Resident Dies

JULIAN - Abraham Lincoln Maurer, 102-year old Julian RD resident, a native of Juniata Gap, who attributed his longevity to good health and clean living, died yesterday, Sept. 15, 1974, at his home.

Mr. Maurer, who witnessed three presidential elections in the 20th century, moved to Centre County in 1920, after working for 20 years as a machinist of the Altoona Locomotive Works.

Mr. Maurer, who started farming when he first came to Julian, was still interested in farming.

He was born Aug. 6, 1872, a son of James and Matilda (Miller) Maurer. His wife, Margaret Howard, died in 1948.

Surviving are eight children: Vivian Buchanan, Sylvia Longham, Ethel Maurer and Mrs. John Smith of Altoona, Clyde M. and Glenn of Julian RD, Clarence of Lorain, Ohio, and Mrs. Arthur Schenk, of Solona; 23 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren and a brother and sister, Blain of Altoona and Martha Meckley of Juniata."
