Age 77, of Wesleyville, daughter of the late Harry A. and Myrtle M. Olsen Wertz. She resided in Erie her entire life.
Eleanor was a 1953 graduate of the former Academy High School. She was a solo singer and member of the Academy Acappella Choir, Henderson Methodist Church Choir, Messiah Lutheran Church Choir and the Symphonic Singers. She was also a paid member of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul Choir where she had also served as a soloist for many weddings there. She was formerly employed by Lynn's Clothing Store, Sears, Boston Store, Horne's and Lazarus Dept. Stores. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Preceded in death by three sisters: Ethel Morgan, Emily Cornwell and Judy Carroll and one brother, Russell C. Wertz.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Donald E. Hiles; two daughters: Donna Holverson (Don) of Austinburg, Ohio and Dianne Tabor (Jeff) of Greenwood, Ind.; two sons: Walter R. Hiles and Warren E. Hiles (Debbie) all of Erie; one sister, Thora Lee Stachewicz of Wesleyville; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Eleanor Wertz Hiles' ashes were scattered on the old family property in Gospel Hill area. She wanted her ashes scattered there by the family. It was witnessed by her children. The property was owned by a family friend and permission was granted before ashes were scattered.
