Violet Lorraine Welch (nee McKanna), passed away at Our Lady of Angel Nursing Home, Thursday, June 12, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. Age 87 years.
Survived by her daughters, Terri (Sherm) Hamerla and Lisa (Mike) Barrowman. Three grandchildren, Tina Singer, Tony Hamerla and Jacob Barrowman. Four great-grandchildren, Mersades and Devon Singer and Isaac and Delani Hamerla. One great-great grandchild, Avery Parise Singer. Three sisters, Virginia Eissler, Mary Graham and Patricia Feazel. One brother, John McKanna. Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Welch; son, Joseph Welch Jr. (infancy); father, John W. McKanna; mother, Ella (Jacobs) McKanna; and one brother, Robert D. McKanna.
Lorraine (Rainy) worked at Hart, Schaffner, Marx as a seamstress. She was President of Sacred Heart League, President of St. John's Mother Club and voted CCW Women of the Year. She also did volunteer work as the school secretary and in the Learning Center.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Tuesday, June 17, at 10:00 A.M.
Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice will be appreciated.
Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
