Gertrude Della Swanson, 95, of Lone Tree, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Loran Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in the Swank Church Cemetery south of Lone Tree near the property Ray and Gertrude Swanson farmed for nearly 60 years. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the United Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Memorials may be directed to the Swank Cemetery Association in memory of Gertrude. Sympathy notes may be left for the Swanson family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. The Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for Gertrude's family and arrangements.

Gertrude Della Eden was born on January 7, 1919, in Louisa County, Iowa the daughter of Howard and Frata Goldie (Morrison) Eden. Gertrude attended Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. On May 21, 1940, Gertrude married John Raymond "Ray" Swanson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Gertrude was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed (E&R) Church, which later was renamed the United Church of Christ, and then became the Congregational Church. This church and Lone Tree's Methodist Church were later combined to become the United Presbyterian Church. Gertrude enjoyed cooking, flowers, her home in the country and attending her children's and grandchildren's events. In later life she continued to love visiting with friends and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gertrude will be deeply missed by her three children, Alan Swanson, his wife, Elizabeth, of Iowa City, Thomas R. Swanson, his wife, Leanna of Cedar Rapids and Marsha M. Chown and her husband, Kyle of Sartell, Minn.; five grandchildren, Matt Swanson of Los Angeles, Nate Chown of Carver, Minn., Alison Peach of Avon, Minn., Sara Iverson of Coralville and Michelle Gale of Cedar Rapids; five great grandchildren, Lilith, Elizabeth, and Thomas Gale and Cael and Kenzie Chown; and siblings, Fred Eden of Farmington, Iowa, Mildred Wilson of Bonaparte and Ruth Dilger of New Mexico and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray in 2006 and siblings, Ralph Eden, Vera Hemmings, George Eden and Helen Latta.
