Gene L Graves, 66, passed away Sunday June 15, 2014, at Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler.

He was born April 27, 1948, in Garrett to Harry W and Lillie M (Bottoms) Graves. His father has passed away and his mother survives in Angola.

Gene was a 1966 graduate of Prairie Heights High School and served 2 years in the US Army.

He worked for International Harvester for 15 1/2 years and finished his career at Eaton Corporation spending 16 years there before retiring in 2013.

His hobbies included cars, photography, guitars and searching ancestry.

He married Laura Heckman on April 22, 1972, in Coldwater, Mich., and she survives in Pleasant Lake.

Also surviving besides his mother and wife are two sons, Brian E. Graves of Kendallville and Kevin T. (Alisha) Graves; a brother, Marshall Graves; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo. Calling is from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at the funeral Home

Friends and family are encouraged to bring with them and share their memories and stories with Gene and about Gene to help celebrate his life. After the service, burial will take place in Pleasant Lake Cemetery with the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 97 conducting military honors.

Memorials can be given to National Brain Tumor Society, for a cure for GBM, PAH Association, NAMI.
