Martha Catherine Courtney, age 90, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 9:45 AM, Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Redbanks Nursing Home under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice.

Martha was a Henderson native being born and raised here all her life. She married her husband Jesse Courtney in 1940, together they had 10 children. She was a member of Airline Baptist Church and worked for Medco Nursing Home for several years. Martha loved to sew and made each one of her grandchildren their own stuffed animals. She sewed frequently for her children, making such item as blankets, animals, quilts, and dolls. She also made several sock monkeys that she would give away as gifts. Martha spent her pastime working jigsaw puzzles and reading. She was an excellent cook and planted a garden every year after which she would can. A lot of happy memories were made on holidays and weekends when the family would gather together for a meal she prepared. She will be greatly missed by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse Marion Courtney.

Relatives and friends are invited to Martha's Life Celebration from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday and again on Friday starting at 9:00 AM at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, KY. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 20, 2014 at the funeral home with the Reverend Nathan Whisnant officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to: St. Anthony's Hospice.
