Bast, Frances Mary

Frances Mary Bast, age 73, a resident of Sister Bay, entered eternal life on Monday, June 16, 2014 at her residence.

Fran was born on June 30, 1940 in Marathon County to the late Allois and Evelyn Dallman Leick. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1958. Fran then completed her education by obtaining her teaching degree from Manitowoc County Teachers College in 1960. On November 28, 1975, Frances married Bob Bast in Manitowoc. She had worked as a substitute teacher and teacher's assistant for the Manitowoc Public School District, and as an Assistant Librarian at Lincoln High School for 25 years until her retirement in 2006. Fran liked camping, taking trips to Florida, cooking for her family and trying new recipes. She enjoyed spending her retirement years in Sister Bay where she would watch birds and taking rides on her pontoon boat on the Bay of Green Bay. Fran will be sadly missed by QVC and her local UPS man. She had volunteered at Sister Bay Historical Museum. Fran was a member of Door County Homemakers and Stella Maris Catholic Parish in Door County.

Survivors include Fran's husband of 38 years: Bob, Sister Bay; six children: Deborah (Jim) Webb, Manitowoc; Jeff (Mary) Bast, Menasha; Robert (Tammy) Bast, Sheboygan Falls; Jamie Broderick, Kiel; Lori (Nick) Kaye, Brookfield; and Sandy Schmitt, Hubertus; six grandchildren: Ryan (Katie) Bast, Sophie and Sam Bast, Melina Bast, Matt and Morgan Schmitt; great grandson: Nolan Ryan Bast; brother: Ken (Mary) Leick, Appleton; two sisters: Jeanette (Scott) Prickett, Marshfield; and Karen (Paul) Hyde, Mukwonago; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Deacon Alan Boeldt. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial of Fran's cremated remains to be at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6 p.m. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home.
