Wanda Lee Agee
Sept. 17, 1935 - June 16, 2014

Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, June 19, Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Clark Chapel at James River Church, Ozark.

Mrs. Wanda Lee Agee, 78, Springfield, died at 7:55 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield following a brief illness.

Wanda was born Sept. 17, 1935, near Adonis in Polk County, the daughter of Clifford Cribbs and Sadie Irene Seiner Cribbs.

As a child, one of Wanda’s responsibilities was to milk cows. One in particular, was named Dori, which she nicknamed “Dumb Dori” due to lack of cooperation on the cow’s part. In addition, she spent many days running from her brothers as they chased her with mice while she milked.

Wanda loved the thrill of going fast in a car. It was evident when she snuck out and drag raced in her dad’s car one night against the local boys…and won! But, she went to her dad and told him before he found out!

She married Dorman Kyle Agee on Aug. 30, 1957, in Bolivar, and to this union one daughter, Leigh Ann, was born.

During her years with Dorman, she enjoyed traveling, including yearly trips to Clearwater, Fla., with friends and eating at the Kapock Tree. Wanda also hung wallpaper and painted interiors of homes with her dear friends, Ann Pursley and Rosie Hopkins. Wanda and Ann were known as “Ralph and Alph.”

She worked at Gospel Publishing House as a key punch operator, then, several years later, returned to GPH and helped in the bindery department.

Wanda love to sing and was a part of several gospel groups. One of which was a trio with friends Lelan Pettit and Venda Hanley. They would sing at funerals and would sometimes get tickled behind the wall of the chapel while singing in the service.

She spent many holidays and weekends at the lake with family — always loving to be in the water or the boat. Wanda was somewhat of a daredevil because she would float on a raft with a lifejacket, even though she couldn’t swim.

She loved attending ball games of family and friends and never wanted to miss. She would always get really excited and sometimes gave constructive criticism to the referees!

Wanda and Dorman are member of James River Church and have attended for over 20 years. She volunteered in many areas including the accounting department and meal ministries for funerals.

She was known as “Nana” to her grandkids. She wanted to be with them as much as possible. Whether playing dominos with Lauren, watching Corbin play basketball, or playing on the floor with Christian and Cayden, she loved her time with them!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Sadie Cribbs, a sister, Darlene Allen.

Surviving Wanda are her husband, Dorman K. Agee of the home; one daughter, Leigh Ann Medley and husband Chuck of Rogersville; one sister, Carrol Stepp and husband Darrell of Walnut Grove; two brothers, Darrol Cribbs and wife Judy and David Cribbs and wife Betty, both of Bolivar; two sisters-in-law, Dorene Gunn of Temple, Texas, and Shirley Boots Clark and husband Harold of Springfield; two grandchildren, Lauren Medley and Corbin Medley of Rogersville; two great-grandsons, Christian and Cayden; and many nieces and nephews, Marilyn and Joe Henry, Carolyn Duvall, Renee and John Vanderhoof, Mike and Jill Cribbs, Sandy and Jake Jacobson, Susan and Brad Coy, Betsy and Tony Berry, Kevin and Amanda Cribbs, Kim Cribbs, Cliff and Becky Stepp, Tammy and Scott Crabtree, Shelly and Mark Maddux, Denise and Jack Pittman, Rick and Kathy Gunn, Ronald Gunn and Charles Gunn.
