Mr. Ronald Jacob Polk Sr. 78, husband of Madeline Winn Polk of West Pulaski Drive in Hampton, passed away Sunday night at the University Hospital in Augusta.

Born January 22, 1936 in Miley, he was the son of the late Homer E. and Elizabeth Gooding Polk.

After serving in the Air Force, Mr. Polk worked as a manufacturing and engineering manager at Westinghouse and retired after thirty-four and a half years. After retirement he and his close friend Gerald Ulmer operated B&U Motors in Varnville. Mr. Polk was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Hampton, enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Madeline Winn Polk of Hampton; two daughters: Sharon Kaye Wingard (Jim) and Sandra Polk Fairchild (Peter) both of Aiken; one son: Ronald J. Polk Jr. (Rose Ann) of Columbus GA; five grandchildren: Alexander Turnage, Drew and Christopher Fairchild and Remington and Thomas Polk.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 4 PM at the First Baptist Church in Hampton, conducted by Rev. Phil Ellenburg with burial following in the Lawtonville Cemetery in Estill with military honors.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 5 until 7 PM at the Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street, West; Hampton, SC 29924 (803-943-3352) and until 3 PM Thursday when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.

Memorials may be made in his honor to the Leukemia Society of America; South Carolina Chapter, 261-B Riverchase Way; Lexington, SC 29072.
