Leroy Frank Nixon, first child born to Frank H. and Opal (Vincent) Nixon, was born on November 13, 1932 at Cooper Hill, Osage County, Missouri. Leroy married Shirley Honse, the love of his life, on June 28, 1952. Leroy and Shirley had two children, Marsha and Jason. They spent most of their married life in the ministry, pastoring several churches including Montauk Baptist Church, Spring Creek Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church at Rolla.

Leroy was a veteran, serving in the US Army from 1953-1955. He submitted to the ministry when a young man and was a bi-vocational pastor throughout most of his life. Outside of preaching, his jobs included working at International Shoe Company in Salem, Missouri; auctioneer; Chaplain for Phelps Regional Hospice, a job he dearly loved. Leroy also liked to hunt and he loved being among his many, many friends to whom he had endeared himself through the years.

When preaching, Leroy's messages were always packed with his enthusiasm for the Power of God's Word. He was energetic and fun loving, always ready for a smile and a chuckle, but was also quick to remind all that God's Word is "sharper than any two-edged sword."

Funeral services for Brother Leroy were held Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Null and Son Funeral Home, Rolla. Fellow Pastors Larry Paris and Norman Cartwright officiated, sharing their memories of serving in the ministry with Leroy. Marvin Dablemont sang three of Leroy's favorite hymns: What A Day That Will Be, Build My Mansion and Sweet Beulah Land. Pallbearers were John Happel, Robert Seelke, Rick Ries, Roger Paul, John Havens and Bill Honse. Honorary Pallbearer was Jim Roberds.

Leroy left an everlasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to have known him. He has gone home to be with his lovely wife who preceded him in death in 2004, his father and mother, and all of those many friends who crossed the Jordan ahead of him. Well done, good and faithful servant.
