Mr. Herald Dean Switzer of Pascagoula, formerly of Kreole, died Sunday, December 11, 2011. He was 78 years of age. Dean was born in Jackson County on December 18, 1932 to Elmer and Lucy Switzer. Dean went to school in Moss Point where he excelled in football as a fullback. He married Louise Beckham Switzer on March 12, 1953. Dean received his draft notice from the Army a week later and saw active duty in Korea. Upon returning from the military, Dean worked as a welder at Ingalls Shipbuilding, maintenance at Continental Can, and finally retired as a supervisor at Moss Point Glove Factory.

Dean is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Beckham Switzer, his parents, Elmer and Lucy Switzer, and a sister, Melva Huff.

He is survived by his sons, Patrick (Jackie) Switzer and Stephen (Tammy) Switzer; grandchildren, Christopher (Samantha) Switzer, Joshua Switzer, Cameron Switzer, and Hayden Switzer; great granddaughter Addyson Switzer; sister Hilda (Earl) Gunter; brothers, Bernard (Bert) Switzer, Robert (Shirley) Switzer, and Wayne (Janis) Switzer; numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful companion, Sioux, his Labrador Retriever.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 15th from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Holder Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with his nephew, Rev. Jeff Switzer, officiating.

Interment will be at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Christopher Switzer, Joshua Switzer, Cameron Switzer, Hayden Switzer, and nephews Greg Switzer and Joey Switzer.
