Albert and his brother, Edgar, set out West for Oregon from Virginia. They were only gone a couple of months, when Edgar returned home alone. He would never talk about what happened to Albert. Albert had worked for the railroad, and was attacked and robbed one day after being paid. Foul play was suspected, but Albert was never heard from again.
