Elmer Henry Ackerman, 91, of Bowersville, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006.
He was born Feb. 25, 1914, in Lucas County, Toledo, Ohio, to the late Carl John Ackerman and Louise Anna Marie Diekman Ackerman. He was a self-employed farmer and carpenter until his retirement in 1988 and was a member of AARP, Sojourners, Golden Agers, and Faith Lutheran Church in Hartwell.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond, Howard, Alvin and Carl Ackerman; sister, Milderd Ackerman; first wife, Sophia Mary Przbylski Ackerman; eldest son, Donald Ray Ackerman; and, two grandchildren, Karl and Cristopher Ackerman.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Day Winne Ackerman; children and spouses, Nancy and J. Michael Hurley of Hartwell, Jerry and Pamela Ackerman of Comer, Robert and Susan Ackerman of Hartwell, John and B. Diane Ackerman of Duluth; stepchildren and spouses, David and Martha Winne of Syracuse, N.Y., Nancy Winne and Gary Phillips of Raleigh, N.C., Mark and Hope Winne of Blue Ridge, and Paul and Suzy Winne of Hartwell; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 10 step-grandchildren; and, four step-great-grandchildren.
