Ray Nesbitt Bishop; of Vanleer, TN; Age 85; Passed away on July 13, 2016 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN after a brief illness.

He was born on Friday, January 23, 1931 on Yellow Creek in Dickson County, where he lived his entire life.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents David Doak & Nancy Jack Turner Bishop, as well as Jeremiah and Minerva Jane Dickson Nesbitt; parents Earl Weakly and Lutie Inez Nesbitt Bishop; and by his special friends Hart Balthrop and Mildred Lecomte.

He is survived by his sister Rita Mai Bishop, whom he dearly loved; as well as his cousins Jean Matlock, her son, and family of Chattanooga, TN.

He was truly loved by a multitude of friends in Dickson County and will be especially missed by neighbors and friends in the Yellow Creek community. He was a lifelong farmer and raised cattle. He was known for raising and baling hay and for custom bailing hay and for custom baling for his neighbors. Ray always planted a large garden and freely shared the produce. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed many happy times hunting, fishing, and boating on Danville Lake and the Tennessee River. He also enjoyed square dancing. Ray attended Wesley’s Chapel School and Wesley’s Chapel Church, which he loved. While he is gone from our sight, all those who knew and loved him will never forget him. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

The Visitation for Mr. Bishop is on Thursday, July 14, 2016 and will be again on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 12:00 PM - until time of service.

His funeral service will be Friday, July 15, 2016 beginning at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Dickson Funeral Home with Bro. George Adair officiating.
Burial will follow at the Adams/Nesbitt Cemetery.
