Daryl Raasakka, 59, was taken home to fly with the angels on June 10, 2014.

Born to Ralph and Violet Raasakka on Aug. 31, 1954, in Livingston, he attended many schools but his favorite school was the Beaver Dam School in Opportunity.

Daryl fought a battle with cancer he was unaware he had. Finding out he had cancer two weeks before his passing, he was able to realize how many people loved and cared for him. This really meant a lot to him and helped him find peace.

Daryl left this earth with no regrets, and he was at peace with his life and his choices. One of Daryl's greatest accomplishments was his sobriety. He held his sobriety very dear to his heart and worked very hard for it. He loved doing service work! He especially loved going out to the prison to help others. He believed that no matter how far down you have fallen, never give up, dust off your knees and keep on going.

Throughout Daryl's life, he was able to have many great accomplishments (too many to mention). He served a short time in the U.S. Navy and completed college in Helena to become a diesel mechanic. He loved working in construction and the outdoors. He worked on ranches, at the Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs, drove truck (which gave him the ability to travel the world) and did construction work. He was a very hard worker!

Daryl's greatest accomplishment, besides his sobriety, was his children, Malissa and Jeremy. He was extremely proud of them and made sure everyone knew it! Throughout their journey together he was able to teach them the most important things in life. Even through his own battles, he was able to teach them the most important things in life. He taught them morals, manners and to have respect, but most of all he taught them to enjoy the simple things in life, to fight for what you believe in and to never give up.

Daryl's grandchildren were very important and dear to him. He had a very special and unique bond with each and every one of them.

The most important day of the year for them was the opening day of hunting season. He loaded "all" of them up and made sure that day was very special. It was a day that all of the grandkids look forward to all year long.

Daryl had a great love of the outdoors and of animals. He loved to hunt and fish but more than anything, he loved to take long rides in the mountains just to enjoy the scenery. Along these rides he collected stumps, rocks, flowers and moss. It was the simple things in life that made him happy.

His dogs Popsicle, Lady Baby, Barney and Dotsie, and his horses Dutchess and Chessie, that he loved dearly, gave him great peace and serenity. He always joked with Malissa and Jeremy about having to take care of their step-siblings.

Daryl was able to begin his journey with his first love, Kim, whom he loved with all his heart but was taken from the earth too soon. Daryl then found a special love, Suzy. Finally he found Lisa, the woman he would fall in love with unconditionally, the woman who would become his best friend. She fulfilled his life.

Daryl died sober and was able to leave this earth as an amazing father, grandfather, brother, lover and friend. He was finally complete. He left knowing how much he was loved by all his family and great friends.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa; his children, Malissa and Jeremy Raasakka; grandchildren, Anthony and Makayla Robles, Nathan Schafer, Starlin and Joseph Raasakka and Kayden and Keyona Fultz; siblings, Cheryl (Terry) Peterson, Gary Raasakka, Sandy (Ron) Knutson, Diane Raasakka and Patti Greene; nieces and nephews, Dennis, Andy, Jennifer, Melissa, Devon and Wesley and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Violet Raasakka; brothers, David and Jerry Raasakka; first wife, Kim Raasakka; and a daughter, Brandy Lee Raasakka

In accordance with his requests, cremation has taken place at Butte Crematories.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Gateway Christian Fellowship Church in Anaconda. A potluck luncheon will be served immediately following the service at the Opportunity Community Hall.
