US Congressman. Lawyer. Educated in the Norristown schools, he pursued a career in law. He was a member of the Pennsylvania senate from 1820 to 1823, and represented the 5th Pennsylvania Congressional District from 1823 to 1827. Markley was appointed Pennsylvania's Attorney General in 1829. He was also a founder of St. John Episcopal Church, as well as a member of the church's first vestry.
