Went home to be with the Lord on January 25, 2010 at the age of 55 years. He passed away after fighting injuries he sustained while doing something he loved, riding his motorcycle.

Gary was born June 3, 1954 in Midland, MI. to H. Duane and Ortelle (Rees) Spaulding and has lived in this area all of his life. He leaves behind his family and friends who loved him very much. Gary loved life, especially the little things, like making homemade jam or playing with
his loyal Dalmatian, Shana. Gary worked for over 30 years as a pipe insulator, having been most recently employed by GE Insulation, Inc. of Midland. Gary had many interests and hobbies. Besides motorcycling, he was an avid fisherman, enjoyed bowling, cooking, camping, hunting,
snow skiing, bird watching, watching football, playing video games and the guitar. Although Gary’s spinal cord injury was severe, he never lost his good spirit, strong will or his wonderful sense of humor. Gary is survived by his mother; Ortelle (John) Phillips of Freeland, one
brother; James (Jill) Spaulding of Freeland, three sisters; Karen (Douglas) Glazier of Midland,Doreen (James) Herring of Midland, Karen (Nick) Chambos of Flushing, many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Gary was predeceased by his father; H. Duane Spaulding, his grandparents; George (Hazel) Spaulding and Marven (Elna) Rees.

Funeral and committal services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 28, 2010 at the Freeland Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. Rev. Chester L. Webster will officiate. Burial will be in Midland Memorial Gardens. Gary’s family will receive friends at the Freeland Chapel on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy, envelopes for the American Diabetes Association, Midland County Humane Society, the donor’s favorite charity and Craig Hospital/Spinal Cord Injury Research, Denver, CO. will be available at the funeral home.
