Kenneth Maxwell Graves of Corvallis, formerly of Florence, died Jan. 4 of pneumonia. He was 93.

Graves was born Sept. 16, 1912, in Clarks, Neb., to Henry and Susie Hunt Graves. He married Anna McLean on Sept. 26, 1931, in Central City, Neb. She died March 23, 2003.

He worked as a welder during World War II on liberty ships at the Kaiser Shipyard in Portland. He had lived in Independence, Corvallis, Toledo, Portland, Holley, Newport and Sweet Home. He lived in Florence for 28 years until August 2005, then moved to Corvallis.

Graves had worked in farming and at lumber mills, including contact car loading. He also operated a service station, and retired from a plywood mill in Foster. He belonged to Florence Christian Church and previously to Sweet Home Church of Christ. He enjoyed family gatherings, hunting, fishing, camping, playing pinochle, reading Louis L'Amour and other western novels, and watching sports on television.

Survivors include a son, Larry of Lebanon; a daughter, Donna Price of Florence; a brother, Russell of Keizer; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

No service is planned. Huston-Jost Funeral Home in Albany is in charge of arrangements.
