He was born in Taylor, Neb., broke horses in Wyoming and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a mill worker in Willamina for 36 years, retiring in 1980 as a millwright.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and going to rodeos. He married Leota in 1942, and she died in 1996.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Ault of Salem; brother, Joshua of Portland; sisters, Edith Heaps of Portland, Shirley Self of Plano, Texas, Carole Rockford of Spokane, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Chapel. Private interment will be at Belcrest Memorial Park.
