He was born in Velva, N.D., and moved to Salem in 1935. He started work at the Golden Pheasant in 1936, bought the restaurant in 1951, and it became Nopp's Golden Pheasant. He retired in 1988. He enjoyed cards, sports and horse racing.
His wife, Opal, whom he married in 1939, died in 1998.
Survivors include his sons, Gary of Salem and Bruce of Keizer; brother, Ronald of Keizer; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visiting will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Virgil T. Golden Chapel. Services will be 4 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Private entombment will be at Mt. Crest Abbey Mausoleum.
