Virginia Gordon Walker, 95, of New Vienna, passed from this life on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the home of her daughter in New Vienna.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Wendell Jack Walker, in October 1999. They were married at her home on Aug. 9, 1947.
Virginia was born on Feb. 6, 1919 in New Vienna, a daughter of the late Edwin and Belle Klausmeyer Gordon. She was an elementary and junior high school teacher for 31 years until her retirement in 1984. She taught in Milford, Martinsville and New Vienna.
She was a member of the New Vienna United Methodist Church and served as chair of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Sunday School teacher, children's music teacher, MYF leader and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She was a 4-H advisor, and served as president of the East Clinton Education Association.
Walker was a member of the New Vienna Women's Club, New Vienna Senior Mother's Club, bridge clubs, Clinton County Retired Teachers Association and the Yellow Rockers Square Dance Club. She was also a member of the New Vienna Senior Citizens and the Hillsboro Senior Citizens.
She graduated from Wilmington College, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Kappa Sorority.
Walker was inducted into the New Vienna High School Alumni Hall of Fame in 2009.
Virginia is survived by her four daughters, who are left to cherish her memory, Patty (Jim) Ryan of Leesburg, Nancy (Chuchi Garcia) Walker of Salamanca, Spain, Jacalyn Walker of New Vienna and Betty Ann Walker of Hillsboro; six grandchildren, Shannon (Roscoe) Hampton of Leesburg, Shellie (Todd) Cunningham of Cincinnati, Patrick (Katie) Ryan of Leesburg, David Robert Garcia Walker of Salamanca, Spain, Lesly Garcia Walker of Salamanca, and Susie Garcia Walker of Salamanca; two step-grandchildren, Brenda Poczatek of Naples, Fla., and Kris Ryan of Naples, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Maggie Pat Donahue, Ryan Donahue, Maura Donahue and Jackson Cunningham; two step-great grandchildren, Tyler Poczatek and Morgan Poczatek; a sister, Elizabeth Stegman of Sugar Land, Texas; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Walker of Leesburg; a brother-in-law, George Bird of Michigan; as well as eight nephews and two nieces.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two nieces; two nephews; sisters-in-law, Doris Walker, Ilo Walker, Billy Walker, Anellen Anderson and Bernie Bird; and brothers-in-law, Eugene Stegman, Clarke Walker, Jerome Walker, Harry Walker and Ab Anderson.
The family would like to thank special care nurses Sarah Gingerich and Shannon Palmer for their loving care of their dear loved one. Also, thanks to Hospice of Hope of Ohio Valley, especially Crystal Lowery and Rhonda McCann.
A celebration of Virginia's life will be held on Sunday, July 13 at 2 p.m. at the New Vienna United Methodist Church.
The burial will be at the convenience of the family in the New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Walker will be remembered for her love of our country, her kindness and her wealth of friendships.
She was a beautiful lady and a gentle soul.
She was a New Vienna girl at heart.
She will be dearly missed by her family.
