Passed away on June 10, 2014. She was a remarkable person who lived a full life despite leaving us after just 58 years. Carol's legacy rests in her two wonderful children, her countless dear friends and the many generations of students of whose lives she touched. She began her teaching career in 1983 in Live Oak, California after graduating from California State University, Chico and in 1985 she transferred to the Eureka School District where she finished her 30 year career. This years 4th grade class at Excelsior School was especially important to her as they finished the school year together.

She was a loving mother to her children Denny and Erin Barry, who survive her. Denny lives in Glasgow, Scotland where he graduates from the University of Glasgow later this month, after which he starts his career with an international bank. Erin, lives in Fullerton, California where she just finished her first year as a 1st grade teacher. The acorn didn't fall very far from the tree. Their mother was very proud of her children and their accomplishments.

Carol was a great friend to many. She lit up the room when she entered it, whether the room was a classroom or a sports bar or anything in between. She was not shy and had a contagious sense of humor. She leaves behind close friends from her college years, her teaching world, and her life in the Roseville and Rocklin communities over the past 30 years.

Carol's family was the center of her life. In addition to her children, Carol is survived by Tom Machen, her father Lawrence Packenham, her step-mother Joan Packenham, her mother Jane Alford, her sister Linda Kehoe, her brother Dana Packenham, many nephews and nieces, and her former husband, Sean Barry, with whom she remained close until her passing.

She requested a private ceremony with family.
