Services for Virgil Glenn "Grandpa" Young, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Arch United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Grand View Burial Park.
Services will be conducted by Rev. David Scott, Rev. Tony Thieman and the American Legion.
Visitation will be at Grand View Funeral Home, Tuesday, June 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Mr. Young of 104 Lamb Ave., died at 1 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Willow Care Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Hannibal, Missouri.
He was born September 7, 1924, in Quincy, Illinois, to Immanuel Young and Beulah Bledsoe Young.
He graduated from Quincy High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army for 33 months in the South Pacific during World War II.
The "red-headed milkman" delivered milk to homes, retail stores and restaurants for Quality Dairy, Bluff City Dairy and Beatrice Foods for 35 years in Hannibal.
Ruby Mae Foulk became his bride of 68 years on June 2, 1946, in Quincy, Ill.
"Grandpa" was a longtime member of the Harmony Class at Arch United Methodist Church. He served as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 105 for several years and was a proud participant of the Honor Flight in 2010.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby "Grandma,"; a son, Ernest (Sue) Young of Scottsdale, Arizona; two daughters, Rejeana Loeblein of Manchester, Missouri, and Lorinda (Tom) Fletcher of Hannibal; five grandchildren, Robyn Young of Phoenix, Arizona, Darryn (Kristin) Young of Scottsdale, Kelli (Doug) Hodge of Phoenix, Stephanie Houser of Quincy, and Kortne (Cody) Baxter of Hannibal; five great-granddaughters, Michelle, Haylee, and Charlee Young and Addison and Devin Hodge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Immanuel Young and Beulah Bledsoe Young; and three sisters, Dora Clow, Betty Bridgman and Wanda Thieman.
