Mrs. Rucker was born October 22, 1915 in Martinsburg, WVA and was the daughter of the late Herman Lloyd and Minnie Belle Lam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Wilson Rucker; five sisters, Velma Harmon, Lolita Craig, Vivian Vance, Norma Herndon and Freida Herndon.
Janice was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah and she taught Sunday School for over 36 years. One of her main goals in life was to be a good Christian woman and to be of help to others. She was always known to never let anyone leave her home hungry. Janice also loved to work outside in her garden.
Survivors include her daughter, Frances R. Comer of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Gregory Scott Comer and Melissa Gray; and a brother, Herman Lam, Jr. of Scottsville.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Stephen Creech officiating. Burial will follow at the Coverstone Cemetery in Shenandoah.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home in Elkton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church building fund, 501 Senior Avenue, Shenandoah, VA 22849.
