RICHARD A. HUGHES

Richard A. Hughes, 35 Morrill Avenue, died at a local hospital early Thursday afternoon following a long illness. Mr. Hughes was born in Pitcairn, N.Y., the son of the late George and Nettie Luther Hughes.
He had resided here the past 30 years and when he came to Waterville was associated with the F.W. Wollworth Company. Several years later he retired because of ill health.
Mr. Hughes was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Waterville Lodge No. 33, F. & A.M., of the Kora Temple Shrine and the Kennebec Valley Shrine. He also had been a member of the Arnold Trail Sportsman's Association since its organization.
He is survived by his widow, Mary Scribner Hughes, city; one city, M/Sgt. Richard A. Hughes, stationed in Puerto Rico; a sister, Mrs. Leta Campbell of Cambria Heights, N.Y. and by five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm.m Saturday at the Reddington Funeral Home. Masonic memorial services will be conducted at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. today. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
