"Karl G. Siedschlag, 91, died Wednesday, June 13, in Ravenna. He was born in Akron on October 28, 1920. On November 20, 1941 he married Dorothy Hostettler of Kent. Karl attended Kent State University until called into the Navy in October, 1941-45, where he attained the rank of Lt. Commander. He earned his doctorate in Polymer Science at Case Western Reserve University and taught at West Virginia University. In 1951, he joined the Textile Fibers Department of the DuPont Company, Wilmington, Delaware, and was a member of the research team that developed Kevlar. In 1997, he and Dorothy returned to Kent where he served as volunteer and Treasurer of Meals on Wheels. He is preceded in death by his brother, Herman in 1989, wife Dorothy, in 2004. Survived by daughter, Susan Dmitriev (Alex) of New York City, foster daughter, Cynthia Secletter (John), St. Petersburg, Florida and close family friends, Nona and Robert Wilson of Wilmington, two nieces, Karla Siedschlag, Virginia Beach, VA and Cheri Sweeney of Payette, Idaho, and devoted special friend, Kathy Mercury. There will be no calling hours. Memorials may be given to Hospice at. Robinson Memorial Hospital. Arrangements by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, Kent"
