She was a native of Newark, NJ and worked for the Jefferson County Public School System. Her most important jobs were as a wonderful loving and courageous mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Also, for 40 years, she was the "minister's wife", helping her husband with many aspects of their church life. She was an inspiration to her siblings and her many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Highland Mother's Club and a member of Beargrass Christian Church for 50 years.
She is survived by her 4 children, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Dolores was preceded in death by her 1st husband of 43 ½ years, R. Willard Van Nostrand Jr.; 2nd husband, Reed "Skip" Carter (3 years); and a daughter; Jane Van Nostrand.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Beargrass Christian Church, 4100 Shelbyville Rd. with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ratterman's Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Rd.
Memorial gifts may be made to The R. Willard Van Nostrand Scholarship Fund at Beargrass Christian Church, or Lexington Theological Seminary.
