Tom passed away peacefully at home. He was born in Oakland, and raised in Berkeley where he graduated from Berkeley H.S. He earned a bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from U.C. Berkeley and went on to obtain his structural engineering license. He also earned a J.D. from the San Francisco Law School. He worked for 38 years as a structural engineer for the State of California, and retired in 1992. He also owned and managed several commercial and residential properties. He lived in Lafayette for the past 55 years.
Tom was an Eagle Scout, and was active in scouting as a troop leader and encouraged his sons to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, which they did. Tom served on the board of the Lafayette Improvement Association for 20 years, and was active in the Berkeley Shrine Club for over 40 years, the Masons and SIRs. He traveled extensively and frequently with his wife. He had a passion for photography and gardening, especially for his roses.
Tom had a great love of family and friends, and he put his family first. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Patricia, of 55 years (next month), his son Jim and his wife Nancy of Danville, his son Bruce of Lafayette, his grandsons Cy and Ben, his granddaughters Grace and Claire, and his brother Bill and his wife Sharon of Forestville. Tom is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Tom's life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 17, 2014, at Oakmont Memorial Park & Mortuary, 2099 Reliez Valley Rd., Lafayette.
