Obituary for Martin "Marty" Van Cornwell Jr.
Martin Van Cornwell, Jr., died June 10, 2014 at his home after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be Thursday 5 until 8 PM at Hartman Funeral Home and will continue Friday from 10 AM until services at 11 AM in the Hartman Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Mike Morris and Dr. David Millican will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Marty was born in Delhi, LA on December 18, 1950. He was the son of Martin Van Cornwell, Sr. and Sue Rundell Cornwell.

He began his career in the oilfield in the early 60's working for his parents at Cornwell Well Services. After 50 years of business the company continued to be operated by Marty and his sister Kathy Cornwell Davis.

Marty graduated from Gibson High School in 1969 and continued his education at Southeastern Louisiana University where he graduated in 1974. During those years Marty showed horses and competed in events where he proved himself to be an accomplished horseman. He and his beloved horse, Jay Dandy, won numerous trophies and titles. Marty continued with his love of horses and raised quarter horses and paint horses until his last years. He was a lifetime member of AQHA and in the 80's served on the board with MQHA.

In the late 70's and early 80's Marty obtained his pilots license and enjoyed flying a Cessna 206 following a love for flying he got from his uncle, Lanny Rundell.

Marty was preceded in death by his father Martin Van Cornwell, Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Gayle Honea Cornwell, two sons and a daughter-in-law; Cody Martin Cornwell and Leann Hutchinson Cornwell, and Cutter Montana Cornwell. He is also survived by his mother Sue Rundell Cornwell, a sister and her friend; Kathy Cornwell Davis and David Travis, and one niece, Rami Davis Smith.

Pallbearers will be: Mark Dunaway, David Travis, Don Honea, Jody Connely, Fred Hughes, and Randall Love.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Kent O'Neal, Robert Earl Wells, Wendall Blackwell, Wesley Walker, Dave Townsend and Cornwell employees.
