Thomas F. Hobert, aged 79, 630 Lansing Street, retired New York Central railroad stationary fireman and a resident of Watertown the greater part of his life. He died on December 25, 1961 at 8:04 p.m. in the Mercy hospital, where he had been a patient since 2:45 p.m. that afternoon. Death was attributed to a massive stroke.

Mr. Hobert, who had not been in good health and had been under a doctor's care for about eight years, became ill on December 22 of a chest congestion and developed pneumonia, for which he was being treated when he died. He was stricken with the stroke about an hour before his death. The funeral was held Friday morning, December 29th, at 8:30 a.m. from the home and at 9:00 a.m. in the Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Burial was made in the North Watertown cemetery.

He is survived by four children, Edward B. Hobert and Mrs. Rosalie M. Conklin, 630 Lansing Street, Gerald F. Hobert, Collamer, NY, and Mrs. Reynolds H. (Lola A.) Holt, 203 Keyes avenue; six grandchildren, including Thomas E. Solar, and Mrs. David (Phyliis Solar) Gaffney; a great grandchild; a brother, John F. Hobert, Carthage, and a sister, Mrs. Ethel A. Loveland, 621 Addison Street. His wife, Leta G. Greene Hobert, died in the same hospital on November 18, 1935, at the age of 59.

Mr. Hobert was born April 14, 1882, in Peterborough, NH, a son of Benjamin F. and Margaret Solomon Hobert. He came to Watertown with his parents as a child and had since lived here. He married Miss Leta G. Greene of this city on December 12, 1907, at the rectory of the Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Mr. Hobert was a former employee of the old H.H. Babcock Carriage Manufacturing company and the Knowlton Brothers paper mill and was a stationary fireman for years until his retirement because of disability. He was employed by the railroad at the old Arsenal street car shops.
