Hester was born in Windsor on May 27, 1664. She was the daughter of John Hosford and Phillury Thrall. Around 1688, she married, as his second wife, Joseph Phelps of East Windsor. Around 1698, she inherited 100 pounds from her father’s estate. Joseph and Hester had four children, including Abigail. Hester also raised Joseph’s five children from his first wife. They were only married for seven years when Joseph died about 1695 in East Windsor. He was in his 48th year at the time of his death. At that point, she was the 32 year old widowed mother of 8 children, from newborn to 21.

Sometime later, she married Samuel Kent of Suffield, Hartford, Connecticut, as his third wife, becoming a mother to a 10 year old step-child. They moved to Suffield where they had one child of their own. Samuel died there in 1740. Hester probably died in Suffield, and is most likely buried in the West Suffield Cemetery. The date of her death is unknown. She was still fairly young, she might have married again.
