Michael R. "Mick" Hinkle, Union City, was born Feb. 1, 1950 to the late James and Lorraine Hinkle. Michael passed away June 10, 2014 after a short battle with brain cancer. He was 64 years young. Though Tuesday was cold and gray, he was surrounded by the warmth and love of his family at his bedside.
An avid sports lover, Mick was a die-hard fan of the Bengals, IU and the Reds, and whichever little league team his grandkids were playing for that season. Mick was a veteran of the United States Air Force and also delivered Muncie and Indianapolis newspapers for 21 years.
In death, he taught others so much about life; IU hats are suitable dinner attire, if you didn't have a nickname it's probably because nobody liked you enough to give you one, it's perfectly acceptable to check the score of the game even if you have company, and always take time to enjoy the view from your own front porch.
Beloved husband, father, papaw, brother and uncle, Mick will always be remembered for his selfless devotion to those he loved.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marlene Kreitzer Hinkle, daughters Erica Hinkle of San Antonio, TX, and Charlotte Kennedy of Greenville, OH, a son, Willie (Alicia) Hinkle of Greenville, OH. Brother Jerry (Mary Ann) Hinkle of U.C., OH and a sister, Sandy Shafer of Atlanta, GA. 7 Grandchildren, Joseph, Lizzy, Rudy, Chase (Meghan), Alexis, Jaden, Cooper and expecting a new grand baby in September. He also had 1 great granddaughter, Nakiah. Nieces, a nephew, a very special cousin Dan (Deb) Mader and several friends also survive.
Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. Friday June 13, 2014 at the Reichard Funeral Home Inc. 400 W. Deerfield Rd. Union City, IN 47390. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday June 14 also at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Sonny Pettie officiating. Burial will follow at Snell Cemetery, Union City, OH. Military Burial Rites will be conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
