JABEZ FITZGERALD
(deceased) was born in Jackson County, Tennessee, January 29, 1819. He was the son of John and Sarah (Bullard) Fitzgerald, the former a native of Kentucky, and the latter of Tennessee. Jabez was reared in West Tennessee until eighteen years of age, when he moved to East Tennessee, remaining there until he came to Missouri, landing in Gentry County, December 6, 1851. He settled the old home place, where he remained until July 18, 1882, when his death occurred. He was an honest man, a devoted Christian, a kind husband and loving father, and a neighbor whom none knew but to respect. He was reared on a farm, and followed farming as an occupation during life. At his death he owned 275 acres of land, about 155 acres of which are in a fine state of cultivation. He was married in McMinn County, Tennessee, February 8, 1843, to Caroline Kirkpatrick, who was born in Anderson County, Tennessee, April 2, 1819. She is the daughter of John and Margaret (Patton) Kirkpatrick. Her father was a native of Virginia, and her mother of Pensylvania. They had three sons and two daughters, all of whom are living: John K., Sarah M., Eliza C., James L. and Joseph B. In the year 1867, Mr. F., united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, remaining a member in good standing until his death. Few men is Gentry County have made a more lasting impression upon the hearts of their neighbors than Jabez Fitzgerald. Joseph B., his youngest son, remains at home. He was born in Gentry County, January 28, 1854 [his tombstone has 1855-KD], and was reared on the old farm. His education was obtained in the common schools of Gentry County, and at McGee College, in Macon County, Missouri. At present he is following farming and teaching for an occupation. He has taught several successful terms in Gentry County, and as an intelligent, industrious young man has few equals.

JABEZ FITZGERALD
