He joined his father in the management of the Palms estate left by his grandfather. In 1901 , he became secretary-treasurer of The Detroit Journal. Later that year he was elected president of Preston National Bank of Detroit. which later became First National Bank. He also had other business interests. He wrote a poem entitled The Rose Garden of the Soul's Delight.
