Luray Wood Savage, 89, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Silver Stream Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 27, 1925 to the late David and Lula Wood of Johnston County, N.C. Luray had an unwavering faith in God and was a faithful pianist at the church she grew up in; Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and later was employed for Southern Bell in Raleigh. It was here at this Southern Bell office that her future husband, Remi C. Savage entered the picture to pay his phone bill. They were united in marriage in January 1950. Remi preceded her in death March 14, 2011. They were married for 61 wonderful years. So many great and countless memories of this Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother to reflect. A few of her passions that she excelled in were master gardening, award-winning flower arranging and that of a talented musician. Oh how she loved to play the piano and sing, mainly gospel songs that she learned from an early age. She passed her musical talents on to her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Tera Stephenson of Angier, NC; her children, Sheri Holland of Wilmington, NC, Greg and Mariko Savage of Parkland, FL; daughter-in-law Audrey Savage of Newton, NC; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Luray was preceded in death by a son, Donald Savage in 2007. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace, NC, commencing at 3 p.m. Viewing will be between 2pm – 3pm on Saturday prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery, NC Highway 41 S, Wallace, NC. Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Wallace, 612 S.
